WEEK 6

Daniel Bogado is a freelance producer and director of documentaries that have featured on Channel 4, BBC 2, BBC 3 to name a few. The multi award winning director focus his documentaries mostly on human rights issues, and has travelled around the world to film some of his films.

In 2014 he was part of the team that created the Emmy award winning documentary ‘Nigeria’s Hidden War’.

Bogados’ online portfolio is very simple to navigate. With the use of pictures of his work and the use of less writing makes the portfolio more approachable as a client wont have the time to sit and read through paragraphs of information, plus the use of show reels lets the client look at the quality and quality of work that would be provided if needed.

The homepage of the portfolio features Daniel Bogagos name in large font, with his work title below.  On the top right hand corner of the homepage there are extra side links that can be clicked, with ‘Home’, ‘Bio’, ‘CV’, ‘Press’ and ‘Contact’. The way this is set out means that if the client is looking for something specific they wont have to waste time looking around the website, wasting time.

Again, the homepage is basic in colour, white background, but this also makes sure that the main focuses is on the work and that it looks more professional and less messy. The use of show reel is actually a collection of screengrabs from certain, and I assume, best work he has done. It gives you the option to see what role Bogado played while making the documentaries. This lets the client pick a role which he played and see the work. There is also a Show reel section which is a 3 minute Vimeo video of all the best work that has been produced.

Towards the bottom the the page, you can view what critics have said about some of the work created by Bogado and the films. Having reviews from the likes of The Guardian and The Times having a well known source review work created by you can increase the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) of your online portfolio.

At the bottom of the online portfolio Bogado has a list of awards that he has won, including his Emmy. Having a list like this shows the creditability of work for future employers, and shows that work he has created is to high stands and award winning material.  There is also a sidebar with links such as ‘Download CV’ and a list of the social accounts that are linked (again, the use of SMO will attract online traffic to this site). Allowing future employers to download their CV shows the list of references and creditability Bogado has.

Overall, Bogados online portfolio is simple, affective and professional. It it straight forward and easy to navigate and a good example of an online portfolio of someone successful in the media industry.
